Here is a round-up of the best of today’s boxing news…
The Kazakh’s company, GGG Promotions, and Matchroom have agreed a deal to work together to promote future events.
The partnership will begin with Golovkin vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF world middleweight title on October 5 at Madison Square Garden in New York, which will be shown live on DAZN.
Hearn said: “It’s an absolute honour to be involved with Gennady Golovkin’s career moving forward.
“I’ve long admired Gennady as a fan and how he conducts his business and we team up at a very exciting moment. Gennady is one of the most recognisable and entertaining fighters on the planet and I can’t wait to get started to work together on the upcoming World title challenge against Derevyanchenko at MSG on October 5.
It has led to speculation that this could lead to Golovkin fighting Billy Joe Saunders, who signed with Hearn earlier this summer.Deontay Wilder to become surprise guest at new restaurant in Yorkshire
The Bronze Bomber follows in the footsteps of fellow heavyweight Tyson Fury, who visited the boxing-themed Mr T restaurant in Bradford.
But Wilder will be at the opening of the new Mr T restaurant branch located in Batley, which is just outside Bradford, on Thursday.
Tauseef Malik, who owns Mr T’s also claims he’s planning to get the likes of Anthony Joshua, Mike Tyson and Sylvester Stallone to come and visit in the future. No hope for Anthony Yarde, says Andre Ward
The Londoner will fight WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on Saturday, but the difference in opponent could prove to be tricky, says Ward, who beat the Russian twice and retired undefeated in 2017.
Ward told BT Sport: “The Kovalev fight is going to be harder than they realise; at the highest level it doesn’t matter how well you do mitt work, or how big your muscles are, you have to show that you can fight, that you can take it and dish it to, that you’ve got the conditioning and the IQ.
“Your coaches have got show they can perform under pressure too; there will be a lot of pressure in Russia. I’m the guy who shows a crack in the door for a person to show up and be great, but I’m not a fan of a guy facing C-level guys and making a name of himself then jumping to an A-minus guy
“I’m a fan of working your way up slowly and at the right time making the step up. I’m not sure he’s fought the necessary guys to prepare him for Sergey Kovalev and I think Kovalev is going to stop him late.”The Rock says…
Having promised to pose with the WBO belt in the style of The Rock if he beats Kovalev, the WWE legend himself has given Anthony Yarde his blessing.
He tweeted: “I’m holding to your word, brother @thebeastyarde.”Dave Allen talks GCSE results day with former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson
